The Wetlands Preserve was a live music venue in Tribeca, New York City, that closed in 2001. The club was located on Hudson and Laight Streets, near the Holland Tunnel. Founded by Larry Bloch on February 14, 1989, the club was a center for environmental activists.
The Wetlands Preserve activist organization was still active as of 2008 and was then known as the Wetlands Activism Collective. The last show was performed on September 30, 2001 (which began with emotional acoustic renditions of "Box Of Rain", "Terrapin Station", "Ripple", and "Dire Wolf" by Robert Hunter).
Many famous acts in the jam band scene have played The Wetlands and the venue was often the first venue that major bands such as Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine ever played in New York. Before its closing in 2001, Robert Randolph recorded and released a live album from the Wetlands. The Wetlands Preserve is also the location of Dave Matthews Band's Live Trax Vol. 20 which was recorded on August 19th 1993.
